KALACHAKRA VIENNA 2019

The Kalachakra teachings of Shambhala describe extensively and in detail all levels of existence. They connect the external reality (construction of the universe) with our inner reality (structure of the body and mind). They lead to our innermost reality, the Buddha-Nature.

Shambhala and the Kalachakra teachings are a real and proven model for the peaceful coexistence of various cultures. Learn more about Shambhala and Kalachakra

About Shambhala

A Model for World Peace:
Shambhala and the Kalachakra Teachings

Imagine a world free of suffering and strife, greed and hate. A world where all can live peacefully in balance with our environment and with each other. Where we are all free to manifest our most profound potential and connect with limitless love and compassion. Such a place is known as Shambhala.

For more than two thousand years, Shambhala has been a sign of hope, marked by a common quest for peace and harmony. Shambhala illustrates what can be achieved if we focus our energy on experiencing the profound nature of our reality.

Describing the ultimate nature of reality

The most expansive and clear teachings describing the ultimate nature of reality are known as the Kalachakra Tantra. These profound teachings were bestowed upon the Shambhala King Suchandra by Buddha Shakyamuni. By putting them into practice, the great diversity of citizens in Shambhala transformed their minds and came to live in peace as a single unbreakable family.

From Shambhala, the Kalachakra Teachings came to India and then to Tibet, where they are still practiced and have been fully preserved by the vajra masters of the Tibetan Jonang-ShambhalaTradition. In the spirit of this centuries’ old lineage Khentrul Rinpoché Jamphel Lodrö brings the Kalachakra teachings to today’s world. Thus, inspired by Shambhala, we can also transform our lives and experience a golden age of peace and harmony together.

What is Kalachakra?

Kalachakra is a Sanskrit word: kala means “time” and chakra means “wheel”. Kalachakra is the“Wheel of Time”. But what does that actually mean? To answer this question, we will need to look at Kalachakra from multiple dimensions or levels of understanding:

1. What is Kalachakra?

2. Why is it special?

3. Who teaches Kalachakra?

4. How to practice?

Kalachakra Empowerment

Connecting with the Possibility for World Peace

The teachings of Kalachakra have one focus — understand what Buddha-nature is and learning how to manifest it for the benefit of oneself and others. While different traditions have different names for it, Buddha-nature is ultimate truth. It is the very nature of reality. Therefore, it is the single most important subject that we need to understand in order to experience genuine peace and harmony in our lives.

The Kalachakra Path provides us with a wealth of skilfull means that allows us to integrate the different layers of our experience into a cohesive vehicle for realising the nature of reality. It is not concerned with replacing other systems of practice. It instead seeks to extend them and clarify their potential. Whether you are Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Muslim or Atheist, whatever tradition you may follow, Kalachakra can provide you with key insights to clear away misconceptions so you can go deeper and expand your perspective.

Connecting with your Buddha-Nature

The Kalachakra Empowerment is an opportunity for people from diverse cultures and beliefs to come together and celebrate our shared nature. Throughout the ceremony, you will be introduced to different aspects of your Buddha-Nature, reminding you of the incredible potential that we each possess. For seven days, we will all put aside our differences and recognise that we are united as a single family, allowing the seeds of love and compassion to grow in our hearts.

In this way, world peace is not a far off dream for the future. Here and now, world peace is possible.

Khentrul Rinpoche

Master in the Lineage of Kalachakra Completion

Born in Eastern Tibet, Khentrul Rinpoché Jamphel Lodrö received an extensive Buddhist education in a variety of monasteries under the guidance of over twenty-five masters. Khentrul Rinpoché is considered to be the third incarnation of the great Kalachakra adept Ngawang Chözin Gyatso. Due to his non-sectarian approach, he was able to gather in-depth knowledge about each of the five major schools of Nyingma, Sakya, Kagyu, Jonang and Geluk. Within those however, he chose to focus his energy on the practice and propagation of the Kalachakra Path as taught by the Jonang, as the lineage holder of this profound practice.

Since 2014, he has travelled to more than thirty countries around the world, introducing students to the practice of Kalachakra and its unique connection to Shambhala. Rinpoché has made it his life’s goal to be a powerful ambassador for global peace and harmony, promoting awareness of the true causes of peace and how we can use our profound inner resources to achieve that.

At the core of his teachings is the recognition that there is great value in the diversity of traditions found in this world. Through our combined wisdom, we each have the opportunity to bring greater meaning and purpose into our lives. While there may be many authentic paths to follow, they are all united through the teachings of Kalachakra.
